If the modem or the laptop is not wireless, you need a cable. Connect the laptop to the cable at the laptop's Ethernet port, and connect the other end to one of the router's Ethernet ports. On power up the router should see the laptop. Done.
In other words, the laptop will connect exactly like the desktop.
Cable to cable modem's cable port, modem to router's WAN port, each PC to router's LAN ports.

It probably is a simple solution but I am lost. I have a desktop PC which is connected to Cable modem and bought a laptop that I am trying to connect it to the same using the router....I followed the direction to the letter but my question is "How do I connect the laptop to the router?" Do I have to buy another cable?...
