Connecting PC to TV

Jun 21, 2009 11:02PM PDT

I have searched the forums and can't find an answer to this problem. We are trying to hook up either of two PC's to our Element FLX-2611B LCD TV to use as a monitor. The TV has a VGA input jack and takes a "Y" audio cable to connect sound. Have all the right cables & connections.
Here's the problem: when we boot up either computer (one is XP; the other Ubuntu) the TV screen will not load and display the desktop for either OS, although it will display the boot-up info/settings for Ubuntu. There is a flash of garbled video and then a "No signal unit will power off" message. Can you help?
Please let me know if you need more info.

Try removing the audio cable for now. Change the display setting to a lower resolution before connecting to your tv.

you have set the video out on your display settings.

In control panel click Display. Click the settings tab. You should have options for different displays.
