Connecting my wireless security system to my D-Link router

Sep 4, 2011 10:31AM PDT

I have an older D-Link DGL-4300 wireless router, I've purchased a wireless home security system and can't seem to get the 2 connected. I've tried resetting the router & modem (powering down & waiting from 1-5 minutes), and my router just won't read the port that I've plugged the security system ethernet cable into.
I think the problem is my firewall but I don't know how to set it to allow the router to read the port that I've plugged into, or it could be the firewall that my anti-wirus has or possibly both.
My equipment is Comcast cable, router (as noted above) and a D-Link DCM-202 modem, Windows XP 3, and Norton anti-virus. Now I also have my phone through Comcast and it has it's own modem.
Any help is greatly appreciated, I can't believe I'm the only person to ever have this problem.
Thanks to all who respond.

This "wireless security system" is some device plugged into one of the router's LAN ports. Correct? If so, the firewall or AV in the PC has no influence or effect on other devices plugged into the router. Does this "wireless security system" have any documentation?

How about providing more information on this system?

Connecting my wireless security system

Sorry to say the documentation is very basic, only goes into the system and sensors install. I spent 4 hrs on an off with an installer over the phone. So I thought maybe the router in some way was blocking it. I will say the port I had it in was lit up until we tested the signal, she got no response on her end so we reset everything.
After the reset none of the port lights came on again except for the cpu port, even tried switching to that port and the light would go out and no connection. The installer said the circut board was shot, this was the 2nd one I've tried both with the same problem.
I don't have a clue.

I've got the wireless broadband system. I just got off the phone w/ tech support and am now (almost a week later) that they received a batch of bad control panels and they need to send me another. This would be the 3rd panel I've gotten from them.
I appreciate your willingness to try to help, but I think I'm going to call it a day and go with a local company and let them install a system.
Thanks again for your time.

When the system is described as "wireless" it means the communication between each module and the controller is wireless. It does NOT connect to a wireless router. The owner's manual recommends professional installation.
