Question

Connecting MB Air and iMac

Apr 28, 2012 1:11PM PDT

Hi;

Just got a new MBAir and got it running on our wireless network. Connected it to my iMac via Thunderbolt cable. Neither machine shows the other in the Shared Devices column but both show other computers on the wireless and ethernet network. Unplugged the Thunderbolt and restarted both to no avail.

Both are new and running 10.7.3

What am I missing?
Chris

Thunderbolt is not a Peer to Peer connection

port.
Without a Thunderbolt to Ethernet connector this is not going to work. Wireless is your best bet here.

Thunderbolt is used for a variety of things, video, audio, data (to a suitably equipped hard drive) but all of them need to have the correct adapter in place.

Did you remember to actually go and set some directory to be shared, and turn on the file sharing function in the system preferences? Generally a computer isn't going to show up if it isn't broadcasting that it has something to share.
