connecting laptop to tv

Dec 3, 2006 5:50AM PST

Hi all.
I am trying to connect my laptop to my tv. My laptop is the dell inspiron 9100 and tv is sony trinitron. my laptop and tv have s-video connections. tv s-video conn is a 4-pin, and my laptop s-video conn is a 7-pin.

My tv also has 3 rsa conns on it. I have connected a 7 pin s-video connector(A) into my laptop s-video conn (B), and then connected a further 4-pin s-video connector(C) onto B. From C then, I have connected an RSA cable into the RSA connector on the tv. I get a good quality picture, but it is in black and white. Is there anyway to get this in colour(if not, why?)

Also, If I just got one big long s-video lead with a 7-pin connector at one end (to plug into the laptop) and a 4-pin connector at the other end (to plug into the tv), would this then deliver picture, colour and sound from my laptop to my tv?

Hope ya understand what ive been trying ta get across.

Thanks for taking the time to read my problem, and thanks to you all in advance for your replies.

Daniel.
