Connecting external speakers via HDMI/ARC

by barrie.hunter / November 19, 2010 8:12 PM PST

I just tried to install a Panasonic SC-HTB10 sound bar on my Samsung UN55C800XF using the HDMI/ARC connector. The Panasonic documentation says this will work on any ARC-compatible TV but it doesn't work in my case. I've tried every setting on both the tv and the sound bar but no luck. Everything works if I use the digital (optical) audio connector but I don't want to use this because it means adding another remote controller to the mess on the coffee table. Has anyone had success connecting external speakers via the HDMI/ARC connector?

I am having the same problem. Did you ever resolve it?

Out with the Panasonic - in with a Samsung

In reply to: Same problem

I resolved the problem by returning the Panasonic sound bar and buying a Samsung (got a good deal on a HT-SB1 demo unit at our local BJ's.) The one I bought is one of their less expensive ones but it works extremely well. And what I really like is that I plugged it in, reset the TV to play sound through the external speaker and it set itself up automatically to work thru the Verizon AND/OR the Samsung remote controls I use so I don't have yet another remote on the coffee table. It does connect via the optical port instead of one of the HDMI ports but this doesn't seem to limit it one bit.

Good luck.

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
