Connecting Compaq laptop to TV

Hi,

I have a compaq evo n600c. I am trying to connect it to my television via the RCA connection. I thought it would naturally project the image to my TV similar to my digital camera, however no image is appearing. I have tried to send using function keys (like if I was using the s-video) however no joy. Can anyone help me??

Do i need to change a setting somewhere? All I want to do is watch a dvd on my pc!

Should i just buy a cord for the s-video connection?
