Connecting cable box to home theater receiver, VCR, tv

Sep 19, 2008 2:39AM PDT

My components are as follows: 1.Atlantic Explorer 8000 (not HD) cable box; 2. Onkyo DR-S2.0 home theater system with built in DVD player, JVC J643u VCR, and Philips Magnavox 27F800 7583 tv.
I have followed the instructions of the cable box and home theater system combined as follows:
1. Coax antennae cable in to cable box, out to the vcr, then from the vcr to the tv.
2. Component cables 2 audio, 1 video from the cable box to video 2 input on the home theater.
3. Component cables (3) from the vcr output to the home theater input video 1.
4. Component cables (3) from the home theater output to the vcr input.
5. Yellow video cable from home theater Mon out to the video in on the tv.
6. Audio cables (2) from the tv to tv/line in on the home theater.

The cable remote is setup to turn on and off each component. The Vcr works fine as the tv switches to it when it is turned on. When the home theater is turned on to video 2, I get sound from the home theater, but no DVD picture and the play stop, etc. buttons for the DVD don't work.

It was set up through an external signal box and I received picture and no sound.

What do I need to do to have all components working?

First off we need to get the cables straight
Composite video: uses 1 video cable and 2 audio L/R
Component video: uses 3 video cables and 2 audio L/R or a digital cable.
S video: 1 S video cable and 2 audio L/R
I think you are talking about composite cables.
When you programed the remote is there conflict with one of your other devices and the DVD codes? John

Hi John, thank you for your help. You are correct. The cables are composite. I had no conflicts programming the remote. For each device I pressed the device and enter simultaneoulsy until the light stayed on. Then I pressed info and counted the blinks for the 3 digit code. This was the only method that worked for the vcr and home theater dvd. I have the Onkyo manual with the connection instructions. I went by the diagrams in that and the one for the cable box.
