Connecting 360 to internet

Feb 10, 2010 7:43AM PST

I'm having trouble connecting my Xbox 360 to the internet. Currently, our internet is through a modem, connected to a router to give me wireless internet throughout the house. I have my 360 connected to the router via ethernet cable. The main ethernet cable, running from the modem to the router, is plugged into slot 3, which gives 3 computers wireless access. The ethernet cable from the router to the 36o is plugged into slot 1.

The problem is when the 360 has internet, the computers don't. When the computers have internet, the 360 doesn't. And to switch between the two requires restarting the modem and router. I haven't been able to figure out the problem, and I really don't want to buy an Xbox wireless receiver.

The router is a NETGEAR 54 Mbps Wireless Router WGR614 v6. The modem is an RCA DCM425. Don't think it matters, but the two computers are Mac's, and we have one windows PC, but it's hardly ever online anymore.

Anyone know how to fix this? Thanks for any assistance you can provide!

Plug the cable from the modem into the "Internet" ethernet port on the router. This one is the one that is separated from the rest. You might need to do a little bit of firmware reconfiguration.
