Connect to internet

May 26, 2005 9:50PM PDT

I have a Suse Linux installation (9.?) and I try to access the internet through my router using WAN. I have managed to access the router but I can't access the internet. The connection is working OK since I can access it with my Windows computer.

What could be wrong? HELP!

In short.

Check the IP address, gateway, and DNS that you assigned to the new box. That is all.

Check

your firewall on your router. Also check that DHCP is enabled (don't fuss with static).

Make sure that all of your settings are matched (same ip range, also check the subnet mask).

Also, check that the computer is connecting to the right ip adresse of the gateway.

If you have filters such as IP and MAC filters on the router, make sure that the computer's ip or mac is allowed through.

Having multiple computers trying to access the router at the same ip can also affect the connection. Make sure no other computer is using that ip.

Thank you! It was the DNS that was missing. The reason why I missed it was that my Windows box got the DNS through the DHCP so I wan not aware that I had to specify the DNS entry.
