Resolved Question

Connect to computers from different workgroups

Mar 4, 2017 5:29PM PST

I am having problem connecting my PC (XP-32) to another PC(W7-64) on different workgroup even though they re on the same network IP range.
They can ping each other OK, firewall are off on both PCs.
I created an admin username with password on the W7, my XP can get the login windows "Connect to W7" and after enter the username & pw, i got the message "\\W7 is not accessible".
Please advise what i am missing.
Thank you.

Try it the normal way.

Do NOT USE the admin and password you created on the W7 machine.

Create an account on the W7 machine that has the same name and password as your XP machine.

Then reboot and try again.

Remember there are thousands of posts on this connection so I'll only point out what doesn't work as in what you wrote and not how to do more than that. That is, you must do your research on setup.

Worked now.

Hi Profitt
It worked but only if I access the W7 by \\IP, even though i can ping the W7 name on the XP.
As long as it worked, I am good.
Thanks, Profitt.
