Danno,

There are a couple of different ways to get it accomplished:

First, if you would like to continue to be an AOL member, they provide a method for doing that, (Bring Your Own Access Plan) but it allows you to use another ISP to connect to the internet with. Here's a link to that method:

Here's a link about how to configure your system to do that: (It's just an example)

_____________

Second, You didn't indicate that you currently had an "ISP" (Internet Service Provider). In order to connect to the internet, you must have an ISP of some type.(MSN, Netzero, cable modem, DSL provider, or anything else as there are many available.) It doesn't have to be AOL, but you must use something. After the connection is made, you can set your "home page" to connect to"

http://www.aol.com/

Please understand that this isn't the standard AOL homepage, but most of the AOL services can be reached from there.

HOpe this helps.

Danno:

If you are trying to use AOLs telephone numbers and I.E. to connect elsewhere on the internet, then I do not believe you can accomplish this as AOL protects it's numbers by forcing you to dial through their browser first. (or I don't know any way to do this)

The general rule is to dial into AOL to the first sheet, then switch to I.E. and go surfing. Other ISPs allow you to by-pass them and go directly to another site by filling in the "Home space in I.E.

I believe they (AOL) try to hold on to you as long as possible and defeat any attempt to by-pass.

for "DialGuard" or "BeWare of Dog"....you could have done a search on "AOL dialup" but obviously were too lazy to so I have to waste my time telling you what to do! Next time, put a little effort into it....
