Each connection takes some amount of memory from what we call the stack. A router's price is a balance of features and price so your consumer models will likely be a lot less than your Cisco or other commercial models.
To top it all off, no one can write an exact number of connections because the number of TCP/IP connections per client matters. Each eats up the Access Point's memory.
