Connect PS2 online with laptop.

Can anyone give me the specifics about connecting my PS2 to my wireles connection on my laptop using a crossover ethernet cable. Some people have told to use the ICS and that hasn't work but I need to know which menu would i use on the startup disc in the ps2. I was able to connect my PS2 to my router and use it from there. There has to be a cheaper way to do this without buying a ethernet bridge or a game adapter. Appreciate any help. Thx.
