the output to speakers has too much amplitude to feed stereo inputs. As well, mismatched impedance will mess with frequency response. You'd be better off adapting the output of your audio device in some manner. The trick will be fabricating good shielding to block noise...especially 60 hz hum...from overpowering the signal from the music device. I'd say, however, have at it. Experimenting is fun and and a good way to learn.
I picked up this wireless Ipod dock for cheap and it has crappy sound quality. It is an Ipod dock that connects to a box that has two speakers and a small subwoofer and is powered through an A/C adapter. I was wondering if it possible to take the wiring form the speaker box and connect it to my home stereo via 3.5mm cable or USB or some other way so that my stereo would play it out of my home speakers. Each of the three speakers in the box has a red and white wire going into it, so I assume I would need some kind of receiver in between?
