try putting a headphone jack

into the audio out jack socket of the laptop.
That should mute the laptop speaker, it disconnects it, but not change what goes out over the HDMI link

Look in the windows mixer and see if you can disable the speaker output when you want to use the hdmi output

I have ONE laptop that did this. I used the volume control on my laptop to reduce it but not mute it.
