Question

Connect my computers audio to my Sony Blu-ray Disc/DVD Home

Feb 24, 2016 10:39AM PST

Hello, I am trying to connect my computers audio to my Sony Blu-ray Disc/DVD Home Theater System BDV-E3100 for the 5.1 surround. The Sony only has a Toslink optical connection that will accept the 5.1 audio input, anything else is two channel. My mobo is a GIGA-BYTE GA-78LMT-USB3 with:
1 x D-Sub port, supporting a maximum resolution of 1920x1200
1 x DVI-D port, supporting a maximum resolution of 1920x1200
1 x HDMI port, supporting a maximum resolution of 1920x1200
Realtek® ALC892 codec
High Definition Audio
2/4/5.1/7.1-channel (Note 4)
Support for S/PDIF Out
I am not using the onboard video, but instead an NVidia ZOTAC GTX 750 Ti 2GB SKU # ZT-70605-10M which comes with a DisplayPort, HDMI, and DL-DVI Display Outputs. I am using my RCA LED LCD 1080P 1920 X 1080 Native resolution t.v. for my monitor which has two 1CHDMI-in 1D connections, but only one single 3.5mm digital out connection. My current configuration is this: HDMI from NVidia card to HDMI of t.v. From the t.v., a 3.5mm headphone connection to the Blu-ray player via a split red white component connection. I set my player to audio and get 2 channels. This is what I 19ve done to try to get the 5.1.
I Went to Fry 19s electronics, explained the above, and he set me up with an AD101 Analog to Digital Audio converter, a Toslink cable and a single component to double. I connected a single component cable to the t.v. component digital out and connected to the red white input of the converter. Then I connected to the output side of the converter with a Toslink and connected to the Toslink of the Blu-ray player. Set the Blu-ray to that Toslink connection and nothing. No audio... No idea why. Right now I have connected HDMI from computer NVidia card to a 1CHDMI to HDMI + Audio 1D connector described as thus: 1CViewHD HDMI Audio Extractor Support Ultra HD | 4K | ARC | MHL | TOSLINK Optical Audio Output + RCA L/R Audio Converter | VHD-H2HARC 1D From the 1CHDMI to HDMI + Audio 1D connector output side, I ran another HDMI to the t.v. to connect the computer to its monitor. From that same output side, I connected a Toslink cable, and connected into the Blu-ray digital-in Toslink connection, thus by making a NVidia ZOTAC GTX 750 Ti Digital Video/Audio card HDMI to 1CHDMI to HDMI + Audio 1D connector connection, and then a 1CHDMI to HDMI + Audio 1D connector Toslink connection to the Digital in Optical Toslink connection on the Blu-ray player. Made the changes in the interface and played some music from the computer. It played on the tv, which is also run through the new box connector, but still no sound out of Blu-ray player. The last thing I have tried, just for fun, is I have removed Toslink and added a red white to red white connection from output of HDMI to HDMI + Audio 1D connector and into the same on the Blu-ray player. Works just fine. Starting to wonder if it 19s a decoder issue or what??? I forgot to mention that I switched the toggle switch on the box between 5.1 and the 2 CH L/r as needed. Also, I don 19t think it matters here, but just in case, I am running Windows 10 64X. So that 19s where I 19m at. Not sure how to proceed. Any help would be appreciated 26

what does the plug look like? How many bands? Or does the manual said "analog input" is for stereo only.

I am not entirely sure which plug you are referring to, but if you mean the Sony Blu-ray, the inputs are L/R red/white 2 channel or Toslink 5.1 channel.
