Connect MultiFunction Printer Wireless

Mar 10, 2005 11:13AM PST

Hi,

I'm looking for some advice.

I would like to connect a MFP (Multi-function Printer or All-In-One) to a PC via a wireless technology such as 802.11b/g or BlueTooth.

I have looked at many wireless USB->Printer adapters. Some say they will not function with an All-In-One printer. The rest make no mention of whether they will work or not.

I want a flawless connection as if it were hard-wired. The printer must retain all of it's features such as low-ink level notification, scanning, copying, printing, etc.

Does anyone have any direct experience with this?

Computer is USB 2.0 equipped and networked with an 802.11g access point/router. Distance is less than 5 meters. The printer is an HP PSC-2350.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Dave

The suggestion that a wireless connection may not work may be due to the signals that need to be sent from printer to PC not getting through. Although I'm unsure how this works in relation to Bluetooth, it's certainly not an issue with 802.11a/b/g.
At my office we have a mcahine that is a printer, fax, scanner, copier (albeit it an office type machine rather than home) and connect to it using a wireless 802.11g print server, and have no issues with it. WiFi is faster than Bluetooth, and in this application means that any machine on your netowrk can use the printer. Check out the Belkin Wireless print server for an example.

are likely not supported over the LAN, which would include monitoring tools. Your printers manual or the makers support pages should discuss this.
