Connect desktop to laptop with ethernet?

by Boogey Man / July 8, 2004 8:22 PM PDT

I have a Dell desktop running XP. I have a new Toshiba notebook, running XP and want to transfer files from the Dell to the Toshiba.

Can this be done with ethernet cable? Dell does not have wireless card, Toshiba does.

If ethernet is possible, how do I set it up?

Thanks for any help.

I have 2 PC's & one laptop and am using wireless connections - the easiest way. One of the PC"s is a Dell & it, as you say, did not have a wireless card. But I installed a microsoft one in an open slot (others will work I am sure) and voila' was able to wirelessly connect to all PC's. Before going the ethernet cable way, I would really consider going wireless.

Have had absolutely no problems communicating between all 3 computers - Dell running at 2+ Ghz, laptop at 2+ Ghz, and my home brew running at 3.06 GHz.

Initially I had 2 PC's connected with ethernet cables - about 3 years ago - and this also worked, but a hassel to running wireing.

Hope this is of some help.

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
