When using wireless, there's no need for an Ethernet-cable. You might see the "cable disconnected" icon, but that doesn't harm at all.

I have a linksysAE1200 USB adapter and a belkin wireless router, I have to connect to DSL but the only working phone jack is in another room in my house. I want to know if I can use the hardware I have and get past the "network cable is disconnected" message. Do I need a cable plugged into the Ethernet port on computer?
