General discussion

conflict with Outlook Express and PC-cillin

Dec 27, 2004 2:28PM PST

This morning when I tried to download my email, the task failed and my computer gave me an error message about something called "tmproxy.exe" (I don't know why it would have failed...I didn't do anything funky to my system). I followed the error message link to the Microsoft site, and it told me that the problem originates with my PC-cillin software. I've tried turning on and off the PC-cillin mail scan to see if that would help, but it doesn't fix anything. Does anyone know what that "tmproxy.exe" means and how I can fix the problem? I'm waiting to hear back from the folks at PC-cillin but thought I'd check here in the meantime... Thanks!

Tmproxy

At the time the advice from Trend Micro's excellent tech support was to rename TMPROXY.EXE to TMPROXY.OLD ? it is therefore clear that this service is not absolutely essential to the proper functioning of either PC-Cillin Antivirus or PC-Cillin Personal Firewall. From our experience the above mentioned problems were solved by Trend Micro by September 2003.

Thank you Marianna! I appreciate the info... I don't know where to find that file to rename it, but in the meantime I've heard from PC-cillin so hopefully they'll help me figure out how to do that. If you have any other suggestions, please pass them along. Happy

Spy HH, Your Post Was Removed....Explanation...
Jan 1, 2005 3:31AM PST

This is a "Newbies" forum. Please treat members here as such...New users, and experienced users, come here for help, not to be called names. "Flaming" a member is not allowed, especially in this forum. Disagreement about a particular program or topic is fine and discussions are certainly invited, (in this case, apparently you don't prefer PC-Cillin) but please do it nicely.

In this case, if you have an antivirus program that you think is preferences and the data to back it up....But remember, I'll bet there are others that may disagree with your choice as well.

Thanks for helping.

thanks for the advice and i hope this doesn't count like a flammin thing!!, and in this case i don't say that i like or not like pc-cilin, but it's not secure. I lived a tragedy from a very close friend that it had pc-cilin and she was a newbie and i was back there,; and she had to buy her entire pc. just for a big virus that pc-cilin didn't stop.

next time, delete my post and don't post the explanation here at the forum, just send me a brief e-mail to spyflag@hotmail.com

Spy HH, Thanks For The Explanation...

I know users who really like PC-Cillin and have used it safely for years, but that's beside the point. This "Newbies" forum appreciates everyone's views and opinions, just as long as each member is treated with respect and understanding.

By the way, it's probably not a good idea to post your e-mail address on the forums...SPAM scanners are able to "grab" your address from the post and use it to send unwanted mail to your address.

Take care and thanks again for your participation.
