conflict between HP All In One 4280 and Microsoft Word 2007

Oct 5, 2008 9:36AM PDT

When I attempt to close Microsoft Word 2007, I get an error message stating: Microsoft Office Word has encountered an error and needs to close. The details of the error include a reference to module hpz3r5ha.dll which concerns the HP All In One. Both HP and Microsoft seem to be aware of the problem. Other than choosing a different printer as the default, is there a patch or a work around? I couldn't find anything on the websites of either Microsoft or HP.

Thanks

I use Windows XP.

Have you installed the svc packs for Win XP? Have seen a few issues with regard to svc pack 2 not having been installed.

Printer issue - thanks for replying

I do have SP2 installed. Still hoping for a patch- have seen many posts on the net about this problem (I googled using the module mentioned in the error message) and I wish that HP and/or Microsoft would address it. HP has acknowledged that there is an incompatibilty.

My older computer also ran Windows XP with SP2 and the HP All In One was no problem. The only difference is that I now use Office 2007 instead of Office 2003.

Tell me about your antivirus, antispyware, etc.

"Comodo Anti-Viruspyware (CAVS) is causing the crash. Uninstall this
application and no more crash, at least for me."

Among other revelations at http://www.google.com/search?q=hpz3r5ha there appears to be some interaction where XP SP2 does work fine with this printer until you add something else.

What is your machine's something else?

I use McAfee's anti virus protection - and on my older computer I did as well. The only difference in software between my last and my present computer is that I use Office 2007 now and used Office 2003 before. Still no clue.

Looking at the discussions.

What are you willing to do here? We see that softwares such as firewalls and more can break this driver. Are you looking at finding another solution or are you going to insist it work with whatever else is on your PC?

If I was being too subtle, I would be uninstalling McAfee and retesting.

Solution for the 4280
Oct 19, 2008 11:20PM PDT

I was having the same problem and contacted HP. They asked me to download the 990C printer software and use it as the default printer once the icon showed in the printer & faxes folder under the control panel. So far so good!
