configuring zone alarm for home networking

by frankzxcv / February 27, 2007 2:05 AM PST

ok, now that I am up and running on home network my last question(s),

do i really need zone alarm, and if i do,
with one win2k desktop and one wireless laptop on the network,
how can i "add" these machines to the "trusted" zone? as it is I need to shut off ZA to get network functionality.
in ZA I see a trusted zone "add option" for
host/site
ip address
ip range and
subnet

how can i find out the "Identifier" of my 2 comps to add them to the trusted zone in zone alarm? thanks - f j

in zone alarm and now hooray I am working, before i could not network while ZA was on. only question is,
when i run ipconfig on each comp i get different ip addresses (last digit anyway). i picked the first one i saw on the laptop and entered it into ZA trusted zone list. first try worked. yay. can network with ZA on.

also there is a default gateway address that is shown-- any advice on which one to put on the trusted zone in zone alarm? am i good as is? have i done anything to compromise security here? --fj
