Configuring modem of my laptop in Ubuntu 6.06 version

by imaudi / October 17, 2006 6:06 AM PDT

The internal modem of my recently purchased laptop (Modem type - 'HD audio soft DATA fax modem with smart CP') could not be configured in dial-up mode in Ubuntu 6.06 version. I have tested different types of linux i.e.Fedora core 1/Fedora core 5/Debian latest version etc. The modem works perfectly in Windows XP pro with SP2. Kindly suggest a solution for this. I could access the internet through dial up mode only in my place.

http://www.geocities.com/ubuntumatthew/aopen1557gls.html shows us that this laptop's modem didn't work.

Too bad you omitted the make/model of the laptop. It would be a shame to work hard and repeat other people's efforts.

I'll share I use either a RS232 (serial) or USB modem since laptop internal modems are hit or miss (mostly miss.)

Modems are cheap.

Look at craigslist, freecycle (those may be free) or newegg.com The amount of effort required to get a modem working is not worth it.
