Configuring a firewall to allow auto FTP upload.

May 23, 2005 8:15PM PDT

Hope I'm in the right forum here as there's a possible firewall issue (though not to do with viruses).

I use Dreamweaver MX (Education version) behind Sygate firewall.

In DW, I have set up my preferences for 'Remote info' to allow for automatic upload to my web server using FTP. This all worked fine when I was using Norton's firewall: saved the file and up it went to the site. Very convenient for my purposes.

However, with Sygate now my firewall, this auto upload gets stuck. If I turn off the firewall, however, it works OK again. But clearly I don't want to be turning off my firewall.

So, it seems that the Sygate config. is what I should be targetting. But this is where I get stuck in the Advanced Rules options in Sygate: I'm not au fait with creating specific rules to allow free traffic flow and am little familiar with the technicalities and terms and settings that lie behind config. specifics (e.g. TCP, Network Interface cards, port numbers).

I wonder if anyone else has used the same combination - DW, FTP, behind Sygate - to set and achieve the same same upload process as described above?

I'd be very grateful for any insights in this area.

Steve
