Question

Configure MediaWiki:

Feb 28, 2013 5:18AM PST

I am new to making my own website. MediaWiki is easy to create and edit web pages, but modifying the appearance and features of MediaWiki itself is extremely difficult. There is no site builder and you have to copy and paste information into a .php and I don't even know where to paste it! The MediaWiki guide is useless. It is written like you are supposed to know what they are talking about.

One of the things I would like to do with MediaWiki, if possible, is to make it white and red.

Another thing I would like to do is create Info Boxes.

I am also wondering what I can do to reduce spam. I have already set up where you must create an account to edit.

And... I would like to put ads on my website. How do you to this?

I think the only ads available for MediaWiki is AdSense.

But I also have other subdomains which are WordPress and SimpleMachinesForums. Are Forums acceptable for AdSense? I had AdBrite but AdBrite is gone now.

My bet is the lack of replies is because forum members don't use MediaWiki. You might want to re-consider your platform choice if support is lacking or you are not getting the effect you want.

The lack of replies means your question was loaded and requires backlinks to answer. Because we cannot backllink you will need to do some Googling. Try Googling the following:

For changing the theme do the followng:
How to change MediaWiki skins

For adding security to prevent spamming do the following:
How to enable reCAPTCHA in MediaWiki

As for the boxes for the ads, its difficult to say exactly what you want done. It can be done however, MediaWiki is a difficult program to edit in some cases. Usually there is a simple implementation for this.

Adsense should wok fine for forums.
