Question

configure email in Windows Live Mail

Nov 2, 2013 5:29AM PDT

I'm trying to configure my school email in Windows Live Mail (or for that matter, in any mail program). I know the incoming and outgoing servers. I've been able to set up emails on this server on numerous iPhones, the Mac mail app, and the Windows 8 mail app; they only require incoming server, outgoing server, username, and password, all of which I have. Yet on programs that require port numbers and authentication statuses, it won't seem to connect. I have tried every possible combination of these (although the URL being https seems to mean that SSL is indeed the proper choice), and yet WLM continues to give me error code 800ccc0e. What can I do?

That's strange. I've never needed http: or https: when configuring an e-mail account. Just pop3 and smtp.

Indeed, 800ccc0e means that the program can't connect to the mail server. So you have at least one of the parameters wrong (or maybe your firewall or antivirus interferes, but that's less likely).
Here's a comparable case: http://forums.techguy.org/windows-vista/786142-windows-live-mail-error-0x800ccc0e.html

As wpgwpg said: ask the helpdesk at school for instructions. They might have a PC with WLM that does connect, so you can write down the setting and enter them at home (or if it's a laptop: check while the help desk helps you).
