Conection TW Standard digital box with HD TV Sony KDF-E42A10

Oct 4, 2005 3:20PM PDT

I am waiting for this TV from Crutchfield, meanwhile I checked the sony site and they say that I can connect the TV to my standard digital cable box with coax. cable, and use HDMI for the DVD.
If i just pay the HD service to Time Warner will I get HD channels?
I need to figure wich cables should I buy.

General rule!! Allwise use the best connection avaiable.
To get HD cable you need a HD cable box!! Call your company and ask them. They may supply the cables also.
If you have to buy them try here. John

HD over cable

In my neck of the woods Cox provides local channels in HD free, although they don't advertise it.

I'm just using coax and the bult-in turn on my a10 to get abc, cbs and fox in hd.

"Built In Tuner?"...

...Yet you say your programming is provided by a cable company, Cox in this case. If that's who's giving you your feed, your built in ATSC tuner is doing nothing. Your TV is running as a moniter.

First Off, HDMI Will Not Work With A Time Warner Box....
Oct 5, 2005 6:25AM PDT

...Next, you better get down to your local T-W store and switch out that box for an equivalent HD box (there's no charge for this, BTW). Then, you will get about 7 - 8 HD channels for free (702, 704, 705, 706, 707, etc). If you want more, you'll have to pay $8/month for some movie and sports HD channels (they are 721-725 I believe). Definitely not worth it. A complete rip off.

T-W says they're "working on" making their boxes work with HDMI. Given their dismal track record for reliability and, in fact, honesty, I wouldn't hold my breath.

HD BOX

if you pay to get the HD service, you need a way of processing that hd information from your cable line so your tv knows its a Highdefinition Picture. that is why no matter what kind of HD package you get from pretty much any company, you will need to also get a hd reciever through that company (at least its like that in the chicago land area). there are 2 exceptions...

1.) if you only want to watch local channels, you can plug an antenna right into your hdtv that has a built in hd tuner.

2.) cable cards.....although not even comcast recommends it right now.
