Tell more about the machine.

Nothing indicates it can run XP.

Check in thre Bios if the machine is set to boot first from the optical drive. From the brief hardware list you provided, it's unknown whether any incompatibilities exist. Best bet is to boot from the XP cd, delete your partitions, recreate those partitions, format and clean install the OS. Since data from your 2K install is likely lost already, this is not an issue. You probably ran an upgrade with your first attempt.

Try a different older data strap on the hard drive.
With several compatible systems I have found that using an older data strap with a newer 7200 rpm drive will get the install past the partition recognition problem; then at first reboot, turn system off and re-install the newer strap, otherwise it won't properly see the HDD again. It is also best if you boot from the install CD. Sometimes the newer 80 wire straps will not allow XP install to see the HDD.
I have learned, on a new system with a new drive, I like to format from the boot procedure, instead of pre-formatting in DOS. NTFS or FAT32, both the same.

I had the same problem, I just ignored all of the warnings the 2nd time and it worked fine.
