Question

Computer won't wake up

Jul 15, 2012 11:32AM PDT

My HP desktop 6837c sometimes won't wake up. I used to be able to touch any key on the keyboard and it would wake up. I had this problem earlier this week and looked it up and it says use the moon shaped key, so I did and it worked - until today. Today, it happened for the third time. I have to turn the computer off/on it get it to come up.

It's like the keyboard is dead. The numlock light isn't on. Nothing will work. The light is on on the tower, so I know the computer is on. It just wont' wake up.

Today is the third time this week.

Any ideas?

Hi bkay,
You mention that the keyboard is not responding. Have you tried using another keyboard?

Answer
Is it a keyboard issue??
Aug 22, 2012 7:12PM PDT

I am doubtful whether it's happening because of keyboard or not. If there is some error that has to be with keyboard only but it has nothing with computer to turn on/off. Have you tried the another keyboard? Or are you still facing the same issue?

And you have checked power settings in control panel? Do you have normal mouse function? As mentioned by prior poster(s) it is possible the keyboard might be the culprit a simple test is, as mentioned a different keyboard. You also neglected to mention what OS you are running, with that model I am assuming it is Win XP. If it were to prove not to be a kybd issue and it is Win XP try a back restore to an earlier time to see if something may have changed within the file system to create a glitch. But as mentioned, the first thing to check would be power settings in control panel.
