computer won't start windows xp

by surferphil / November 26, 2004 7:21 AM PST

I have a computer that always ran on windows xp. Earlier this week, I turned it on, and it ran some sort of scan for corrupted files (or something like that, with a blue screen), it deleted some of the files it found, it finished, but didn't load windows, so I rebooted. Now instead of starting windows I get a blank screen. How can I solve this problem? Anybody had this happen? I really need to keep my files that I have saved on the hard drive.

Coursorcowboy - Thanks for the suggestions, but not sure of what to do. I can't get past the screen that comes up to reboot or insert software to reboot. Any suggestions to do that? I can't get past that screen to try anything else.

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
