Resolved Question

Computer WON'T Start - Warning Message pops up!

Feb 26, 2012 11:04PM PST

I defragmented my mom's computer and after a few days, this is what I saw: "Warning: Dell's Disk Monitoring System has detected that drive 0 on the primary EIDE controller is operating outside of normal specifications. It is advisable to immediately back up your data and replace your hard-disk drive by calling your support desk or Dell Computer Corp
Strike the F1 key to continue, F2 to rin the setup utility"

When I try to strike either the F1 or F2, nothing happens, this message just stays on the monitor. ANY HELP and/or idea would be greatly appreciated

I read your post and can't find where you replaced the HDD

The message is when the HDD has failed or is about to fail.

A parting comment about DEFRAGGING OTHER FOLK'S HDDS. Most techs eventually learn to not do that as if a drive is getting older this could push it over the edge to full failure.
