Computer WON'T start up

My laptop inexplicably won't load Windows. Every time I try it says Press F11 for emergency startup then loads the old black screen that gives options to:

Start in Safe Mode
Safe Mode with Networking
Safe Modes with Command Prompt

Start Windows Normally

OS: Windows XP
Hewlitt Packard

Any other info needed I'll be glad to give out. Thanks for any help.

XP disc??

Is the disc absolutely required to do this? Is there anything in Command Prompt that will solve this problem?
