Computer won't Reboot

by shift / December 12, 2008 11:13 PM PST

OS: XP
HP Pavilion a1012x
When I start the computer all I am getting is the HP page with the ESC and the F keys operations. None of these keys will work from my keyboard, so I can't go to a Safe Mode to start it in or a Recovery Mode. I am wondering if it could be that my Hard Drive is not working or something else. I had it happen before and I just disconnected the power and left it and try it later and it worked, but this time is seems there is no go. Any info would be appreciated.

Sounds like it didn't boot at all.

I read your post twice and can't see where the reboot failed. So I'll take it that it never booted.

Since the keyboard is non-functional try a PS2 connected keyboard.

Next idea? Replace the hard disk and install from the restore media.

Last idea? Sounds like the old BAD CAPS issue. Research BAD CAPS on google.

Thanks! I don't think it is the hard drive as I do have one here and there was no change. I will take it and have it look at. Thanks again and Season Wishes. Susan
