computer will not stay on

I have a hp pavilion modle #xe783, it came with windows
ME.I was on the internet and the computer froze so I had to turn it off with the button I could not shut it
down the right way. When I tried to turn it back on
it would come on for a few seconds then turned its self
off, I have tried to turn it on a few times could somebody please help?
