computer will not start up...help please

Jan 9, 2005 6:00AM PST

Hello.

I have just gotten a new case and moved everything from my old case to the new one and now my computer will not start. Everytime I flip the power switch on the power supply in the back, my fans (including the cpu fan) would flicker on a bit for like 5 seconds and then it would turn off. My power/reset buttons in the front of the case do not work as well.

After I have taken everything apart and made sure numberous of times that the connections are well established, the problem still persists. I have checked the power supply with a different working one and even only just plugging the power to the motherboard and my hard drive, but they have not solved the problem. I have also checked the integrity of the power cord and the outlet by switching to a different one and relocating to a different outlet and still no luck

I have tried to figure this out for about a week now by asking around and looking through forums but they have not helped. Any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks!

When you moved to the new case did you make sure that you used the spacers and that the spacers are in the correct place for your mother board? Some cases come with raised bumbs that you have to put an inslator in the place where your MB dosen't have a mounting hole. John

Have you had any response to your inquiry? As above, when I use the power button on the front of my case, the only thing that happens is a light(fan) inside the case comes on for an instant and then nothing else. (The green power light on the MB does come on though. So the MB is getting power.) It's like a short of somekind. I have completely torn the unit down and even replaced the power supply with no help. By the way if I hook the power supply up the motherboard, not installing the PS, the unit powers up. I'm thinking of painting the piece of metal that the PS screws to with hand tool rubber handle paint to see if that helps. I think it is a power bleed from the case to the MB or visa versa.
