Question

Computer will connect to home network, but no internet acces

Jan 14, 2020 2:12PM PST

My laptop will connect to my home network, but it has no internet access. I have checked my router, and other devices connected to my network. They have no issues accessing the network and being connected to the internet. I have tried completely rebooting my computer to factory settings. I have tried deleting the network adapter and reinstalling it. I have scanned local forums for a solution, and can't fix the issue. The computer is able to connect to other networks, like my phone hotspot, or other wifis (starbucks, library, etc). Please help me fix this issue. I am a a loss.

Info on Laptop:
HP ENVY x360 Convertible 15m-bp1xx
RAM: 16GB
Processor: Intel Core i7

Answer
Sadly so many reasons.

Here's a few I have encountered.

1. Norton (and others) block Internet use. Yes I read where it works but as Norton and others can cause this we check it anyway. (How? I uninstall it for a test run.)
2. The old ROUTER BLOCKS YOUR MAC ADDRESS issue. This is one for the one that sets up and manages your router.
3. Any parental controls on router or other places?
4. Test with a wired connection too.

Usually when you are connected to router but no internet access it is because of a security issue. Try resetting router leave off for a few minutes. Another issue I have experienced is that the router is remembering the device in connected devices in the router software and will not allow the device to connect again until the device is removed from the router you will need to have the router off for a while or in some cases takes a few hours and it will fix itself when the router updates the connected devices list. Also you could try deleting the connection of your laptop and reconnecting to your router with a different static ip and re-entering your network password.
