Re:Computer video card issue... (on machine with Intel 810 chipset.)

Not all i810 chipset machines can disable the onboard video. Exits include...

1. Newer BIOS that may have a disable or change the boot video to AGP for the primary display.
2. Another video card. Some HP/other machines just don't like some cards.
3. The ATI 9000 is a power hungry video card. If the machine doesn't boot...

Installing the PCI video card can sometimes get confusing. Let's see if I can confuse you even more.

With the computer operating correctly with the on-board video card:

Power-off and install the new PCI video card in the slot closest to the CPU.

Do not move the video cable to the new card.

Power-up and Win98 should detect the new video card. Follow the instructions that came with the card to install the drivers for this card.

After installing the drivers - reboot the computer.

Now go to the Device Manager and look at Properties for the Display Adapter for the on-board video card.
There is a check box at the bottom of the window that will let you disable the video card.

Shut down the computer.

Move the video card from the on-board video adapter and plug it into the new PCI video card.

Power-on the computer.

You should now see your display through the new video card.

You should check the setting to see what monitor name has been detected. Change if necessary.

Good Luck

Joe

One line says:

Move the video card from the on-board video adapter and plug it into the new PCI video card.

It should say:

Move the video cable from the on-board video adapter and plug it into the new PCI video card.

..

Sorry about that.
