computer to tv

by 29342 / March 18, 2009 4:39 AM PDT

I have a vga out connection on my computer and a hdmi in among other connections (s-video) on my tv. I bought a vga to hdmi converter. I plug vga into computer and converter plus audio cable from computer. On other side of converter is a hdmi out plug which is connected to hdmi in on tv. The image I get covers the left side of tv with image of my desktop. On right half of tv is another image of my desktop but it shows only left half of my computers desktop. I set my computers resolution at 1280x720 I believe. This is only resolution that shows image from my computer. No other resolution works. Looking at tv manual I believe it has 1080p resolution. Why can't I get the tv to show one full image of video I'm playing on computer?

It would really help if I knew what pc and os you are using. However; Have you set up your desktop for dual screens? For vista: right click any open space on your desktop, There will be a menu; click, `nvidia control panel` Then go to `set up multiple displays` There you will have all the options you need. Let me know how it goes, or if you still have a problem. Rolf out.

vga to hdmi

I have a Dell Vostra A860 laptop computer with Vista Home Basic SP1 OS on it. I've changed the screen resolution to the only one the converter will work with and my previous post tells you the results. I changed it from notebook to tv so it shows on tv. I was told today that what I need is a vga to hdmi scaler.Does anyone know the difference between a scaler and a converter?
