i have a somewhat similar setup and had to play around a little bit to get it to work right and look good. mine too was initally set at 640x480 and it looked awful. what i did: changed monitor driver to ''standard monitor types''|''digital flat panel''|800x600. sure, higher res would be nicer but i discovered that 800x600 works well on a tv since i'm viewing from a farther distance. good luck.
I just read CNET's ''Digital Home DIY'' on connecting my computer to my HDTV. I have the TV they list under ''gear'' (Mitsubishi 52525) I purchased a DVI (to my X850xt video card) to HDMI (to the tv) cable and I get a horrible picture on the TV (16 bit color, 640 by 480 is the only resolution available) I have the latest catalyst drivers from ATI, and the VGA displays a pretty good 1184 by 666 resolution at 720p (using powerstrip for custom resolutions). Anyone have any ideas on whats going on or how to get a better picture with the DVI out?
