Question

Computer stuck at Republic of Gamers logo

Mar 7, 2018 5:04PM PST

Hi, so I want to preface this by saying i'm not very knowledgeable about computers, I just got this computer to game on, so if I could get some easier explanations that would be great.

So, literally 30 minutes ago i was on my custom built computer (I bought the parts and got it built at an electronics store) like usual. I was torrenting a game, an a bunch of Russian text and stuff appeared, and the torrent wasn't loading just a file transfer image moving. I kinda felt sketched out so I did a system restore for earlier today. I know it was probably nothing, I have antivirus and firewall anyways. But I did so and it restarted my computer for me after I hit restore.

After that it got to my Republic of Gamers Logo after booting up with the "Please press DEL or F2 to enter UEFI BIOS settings" like usual. But that's where it stopped. It basically just froze there, I have no clue why. I couldn't/can't press or do anything it's just frozen. After like 20 min I restarted my pc again, same result, and again, same result. Currently I'm on my laptop because I can't get my computer to start no matter what I do, it's just frozen on that logo. I have a lot of programs and work on my computer for my college classes and really need to get back on. Is there anything I can do to fix this?

Worst case I go and take this back to the electronics store for them to fix it, but that takes time, and money. Also, I'd rather not have them wanting to login to my windows account again snooping around on my account like last time.......(I forgot to close tabs and yeah.....rather not have that being opened if you know what I mean....)

Anyways any help would really be appreciated.

The only "specs" I know on my computer is that it has a GTX 970 graphics card and Intel Core i7. Thank you.

Answer
torrenting?

That's the usual source of the newest and worst malware. I fear you'll end up doing a factory reset depending on the infections.

Didn't anyone warn you of the dangers in torrenting?

I mean, it didn't seem like it was due to that, i did a system restore just to make sure, I think that's what did it. Then again what do i know. Just pretty sure i had a lot of protection so it didn't seem like it was actually doing anything. It was the 3rd search result so i'm assuming it had some credibility. But yeah either way not really sure how to do a factory reset. Like I said I just reboot my My logo appears like usual, it just doesn't load or show anything else, so I can't go anywhere from there.

Still looks like a factory reset is in the cards.

The newest malware is designed to get around the "protection."

Factory reset, and see if the speed comes back.

Ok, well like I said I don't know how to reset it, I've googled it and it seems like you have to actually get into your computer to do it. I think you're confused, it's not that my computer is slow, It's just unable to start. I might have said booted up but I made a mistake. Anyways since it's a custom built pc, the logo is Republic of Gamer's initially instead of windows. When I restart computer, that's all i see immediately is the logo nothing else, I physically can't do anything else, much less reset it. I looked online, people say it's maybe my hard drive or something? I'm not sure. I had an issue prior to this where it gave me some error saying the disk was dry or something when I booted up and it needed to be replaced, I just ignored it and started it anyways, didn't seem like a problem. I'm not sure if it's related to this or not but either way.

OK. Since you built it.

Go over your steps that you installed the OS. You get to do that again.

Remember that PCs, smart phones and such are not bullet proof so we only lose what we didn't backup.

Like I said, I didn't build it, a tech store did, as I'm not that proficient myself. So yeah I have no clue. And not sure if I "backed things up" . I have a lot of programs downloaded and saved to drive E: if that's what you mean, which I assume is still recoverable? I mean if I had to I could go without my files, I'd just have to reinstall everything, tedious but possible. Like I said though, no clue.
