Question

computer starts inserting things continuously

Apr 14, 2019 2:58PM PDT

I have a HP500 pavillion, running 8.1. I use Firefox as a browser. It's up to date. Using Firefox, sometimes it will start opening and duplicating a tab. It just keeps opening more of same tab. I finally figured out that you can stop it by "Xing" out the tab that is being duplicated. If not, it just keeps opening new tabs. (The refresh circle is going all this time, too.)

Coincidentally (or not), when using Word, it will start inserting lines just as fast as it can go. I had it insert 50 pages yesterday in a 4 page document. I can stop it by hitting the backspace button, but if I stop backspacing before I get all those errant spaces out, it will start inserting again. (The document had page breaks, headers, etc.)

My computer crashed a few months ago, but I was able to get it going again, I had to reinstall everything, though.

Any suggestions or advice?

I reset Firefox

I refreshed Firefox. I won't know if it worked for a little while. Of course, it only does it when I need to get something done. Do it may not do it right away. I'll reply,

Thanks for your suggestion. I hope it works.

Yes, I reset firefox...

but it didn't work. I opened the Word document that was inserting lines and reformatted it to not add a space after the paragraph. It went nuts and started adding lines.

Reset option removed

Firefox has either removed that option or re-named it. Following the directions on tomsguide.com, the option is now called "refresh". The bookmarks are still there, but all my privacy options have been reset. I will report if "refresh" works or not.
