Computer shutting down and sounding alarm

Feb 20, 2006 4:14AM PST

I have a EMachine W3050 Desktop Computer that died right before New Years. It was sent back to the factory for warranty and they replaced the power source according to the paperwork I got back.

Now it decides to just shut down, no warning, nothing, just turns off and then an alarm sounds from the unit, almost sounds like a European Police Alarm like you hear on TV. Even when I unplug the power cord the alarm continues for another 10-15 seconds. It's running Windows XP. Any clues as to what is happening?

Bet? The CPU FAN failed.

Or the heatsink fell off.

Open it up and check.

You are right

It is the fan, after you posted that it dawned on me that I didn't hear the fan running, so it was overheating and shutting itself down! So I put a small fan on the back until I can get ahold of EMachines to have it fixed. Thanks!

Well, taking it in tomorrow morning

Taking the unit in tomorrow morning to see if they can replace the fan and update the RAM at the same time, might as well get it all done at the same time. Thanks again!
