Question

Computer restarts after waking from sleep mode.

Jul 10, 2017 11:55AM PDT

Hey.
I have a problem with my laptop. When I open the lid, my computer restarts instead of waking from sleep mode. I feel like I've tried everything. I've reset my computer and I've tried updating drivers but nothing seems to work.
My computer is running on Windows 10.

- What are your settings for closing the lid. If that is "shutdown", it shuts down.
- What drivers did you update?
- What changed since it last worked as you expect?

- My setting for closing the lid is "slumber". When I close the lid my computer goes into slumber mode, but when I open the lid it restarts instead of waking.
- I've tried to update my graphic drivers but it did not help.
- I do not know what changed but I've experienced a couple of BSOD after it stopped working as expected.

The graphic driver is not involved (that's for the graphics). Install the motherboard/chipset drivers from the makers site.

It worked! Updating the motherboard driver solved the problem. Thank you so much!

Leave the cover open and put it in manual sleep.
Let it sit for 30 mins.
Tap on a key or move the mouse.
Does it wake normal?

Fixed! Computer woke from sleep mode by itself

This thread isn't exactly the problem I had. When I put the computer to sleep it would wake up in a few minutes. But the solution may be apropos to the thread.

For me the solution to the computer waking itself was to put my HP desktop Envy computer to sleep by clicking on the "Sleep" in the Power icon of the Windows menu rather than pressing the power button. It now stays asleep.

Formerly I used the power button on the tower but the machine would wake up in a few minutes. Pressing the power button after it woke up (in other words a second press of the power button) also maintained the sleep mode.

Previous to the solution mentioned above I had unchecked all power management control panel options in the Device Manager and unchecked "Fast Startup" in the Power management window. These actions didn't fix anything.
