computer restarting by itself

by trimona / March 28, 2006 1:43 PM PST

Computer (vaio laptop/XP) restarting by itself.

On restart I get message "gear511.exe has encountered problem and needed to close."

I heard the message is somehow related to the neatgear network card but i dont know whether its related to the system restarting...problem is happening whenever online for about 30+ min (whether wireless or direct cable)

please help...

Friend,

u said comp restarts automatically after u see the message gear511.exe at start up, try this , try checking in safe mode(if it works, pls clear all the start up items and disable all third party services),if the above does not work try, disable auto restart in advanced boot option menu. and please let me know what happens. For doing all this advanced boot menu, restart ur computer and keep tapping F8 continuously on the key board it will show advanced boot menu, where u can select, safe mode and hit enter and just proceed the screen further. Hope this resolves, else get back will try something

2 ideas.

1. Heat. Many don't know that laptops require maintenance to unclog vents and dust off the heatsinks. Try a laptop cooling pad.

2. Gear is a known CD/DVD recording software. If you have such, uninstall it.
