Computer Randomly Turns off

Feb 19, 2004 9:50AM PST

I turn on my 2 year old computer, a Compaq Presario 5000, in the morning. The computer runs Win XP home, has 256 Mb RAM and a 1.3 ghz processor. Within 30 minutes the display, hard drives and processor fan all shut off. The power light on the computer stays on, but pressing the power button or any keys doesn't turn the computer back on, like it was in standby. The "power supply fan" is not working at all. Could the computer be overheating? What else could cause these random shutdowns?

It's also worth noting that the computer does not indicate an improper system shutdown when I start it back up.

I have the exact computer. Its the power supply fan. Youll have to replace the whole power supply, the fan is soldered in. Look on price watch and ebay.
