Plug your pc directly into the wall socket....bypass the surge unit...test.
Plug your dvm into the wall socket test if the voltage is proper.
I've had one leg of the input power coming into my home drop.
Wonky things happen to stuff connected to that leg.
Hey, everyone. I have a Windows 10 desktop rig I built myself a little over a year ago. Over the last couple of months, it's started randomly shutting off on me.
There is no blue screen, or any kind of warning at all.
There is no set amount of time at which this happens.
I have tried and failed to self-diagnose it for a couple of months now, and decided to take it to a PC repair shop. They had it running for over 24 hours with no issues, and stress tested all of my hardware with positive results on each component. They went so far as to imply that Windows Update was simply restarting my computer (I have dealt with that since I was a wee one, and this is definitely NOT that. Not only does the computer not restart, but it also doesn't give me any warning or shut off my programs before turning off).
I have run multiple virus scans with nothing found.
This doesn't seem to be linked to any specific program, as it's happened when playing games, using Facebook, watching Netflix, and others.
If I try to turn the computer back on directly after shutoff, it won't. I have to give it a good 2 minutes or so before it will boot for me.
When it does come back on, all of the fans go insane, as if to keep the machine from overheating, but I can only actually feel heat coming from the vents about a third of the time.
Additionally, when it boots, it doesn't give me any error messages, or acknowledge that the PC was turned off incorrectly/unsafely.

At this point in time, I have ordered a beefier Surge protector. If that fails to solve it, I'll plan on RMA-ing my PSU. This is my first rig, and most of this maintenance is very new to me, so if anybody has advice, please let me know!
Thanks (and sorry for the novel-length post),
