Computer randomly shutting off my display and roaring fan

Apr 20, 2018 5:34AM PDT

I bought a new computer from IBUYPOWER, and I don’t really use it much for daily purposes but more for gaming Fortnite with my friends whenever they are available. So this computer is basically Fortnite and no other apps on the system besides the required and beneficial software.
I’ve recently got a problem where I would be gaming on Fortnite on the best settings and second highest settings. Then the computer would randomly shut off my display then one of my fans starts to roar and spin quicker than usual. However I can hear the game still playing behind me as I have my headphones on. So i dont know if it’s a display problem or something’s not showing up. Here are my specifications: my computer is about 2.5 weeks old.

By listing all the parts my guess is the question is
Apr 20, 2018 7:07AM PDT

"Do you see anything wrong about the part selection?"

To that I'll answer no. It's more likely the builder didn't update the BIOS but that's for the maker to take care of. Many don't.

Also since it worked fine for weeks the initial build was again likely fine. What happens next? Usually you call it in to see what they want to do next.

YouTube Video

Based on your listed Specs, your video card is NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 - 6GB (VR-Ready). Did you check if your Video Card Driver is updated? I have the same brand, just different model. You might want to check on that. You could also clean your fan with compressed air and see if it quiets down.

I Had That Problem Before
Apr 21, 2018 12:04PM PDT

Hello Dr_Im!

I was posting a reply on "What Can I Expect When Microsoft Stops Supporting Windows 7?" when I saw your posting. I wasn't planning on writing another comment but since I saw a similar issue that I had before, I just have to share it. What you described here were exactly the same as what I experienced over a year ago. The display was randomly shutting down and the fan was making noise. It would come to a point where your computer will no longer recognize your display. At that time, I knew that my video card needed to be replaced. I bought a new Video Card and replaced it myself. It was not that hard. I even recorded the step-by-step procedure and posted it on YouTube. First and foremost, check your Computer Specifications to find out what kind of Video Card you need to buy to replace it with. Your fan is probably noisy because your computer has accumulated a lot of dust inside. You'll need a can of Compressed Air to clean it. I also showed how to clean the computer in the video. The one thing that you need to avoid when opening your computer is STATIC ELECTRICITY. Make sure you open your computer on a table, not on a carpet. Here is the link to my video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_xvQJrgT7ik

Hope this helps!

sound after freezing

"However I can hear the game still playing behind me as I have my headphones on."

Since the sound continues, then it's not a CPU problem. Since it's only video that cuts out, then most likely a problem with the video card. That video with fan sound, seems more to be from video card than any other type. A case fan won't run at that high an rpm.

the latest driver files for that video card. If it still does the same, time for new video card.
