Computer randomly shuts down and restarts

I have a Dell Dimension E510 desktop running Windows XP Professional. For the past 2 weeks it randomly shuts down and tries to restart itself 4-5 times before it finally reboots. When it shuts down it loses power. I have replaced the power supply. That did not stop this problem. I have also run a number of spyware software and cleaned my system. That did not stop this problem. I have also started it in safe mode. That did not stop the shutdowns. Could it be the motherboard? Any suggestions?

Could be a heat issue.

I've been having the same issue with my E510 within the last 5 days except that now it will not even power back on. I too suspect a heat issue and noticed a burning smell after the last shutdown. I've notified Dell and they are not sure what the problem is. Still waiting for a response from Dell tech as the machine is still under an extended warranty.

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
