I've had my Windows XP home edition PC for about three years now.
I recently have started having a problem with my power button though.
When I push the button in, it will make a "click" sound and turn on for 4-8 seconds, as if it's loading at first but then instantly turns off afterwards. I noticed that if it makes the "click" and does not make a "Meep" sound it will turn off everytime. Usualy on the 6th-8th try it will make a "Meep" sound which meens it will succesfuly turn on.
This is also an issue keeping me from using my Windows XP home edition disc to run a repair. Due to a recent OS crash, when I open up "My Computer" it just brings up a flash light and searches all day but finds nothing, this has messed up a few other programs as well. A few of my programs that do work often enter "Not Responding" since my computer crashed.
(I was told by computer proffesionals to use my Windows XP home edition repair/install disc to run a repair to fix the basic pc programs that got polluted/whiped when my PC crashed and that would fix the problem)
When I try to run the repair from the CD to fix a few basic pc programs It will get to the end of the process and my computer will and power off like it does when I turn my PC on; right before it officialy finishes, causing me to have to go through the repair progress again but it won't ever finish due to this issue.
(I've been having the power problem since before my PC/OS crashed.)
Think this is a problem with my computers powerbox, or hardware inside?
Any ideas or suggestions would be great.
